When I lived in San Francisco I liked to sneak off to Daly City and poke around suburbia. Chalmette is my Dixie equivalent.
Mikecohen and I drove out to Da Parish for lunch at the historic Rocky and Carlos’s Italian-American restaurant. It burned down the week before the St. Bernard Parish Fair and only reopened three days ago. The place was teeming with Gatorade-mouthed grammar schoolers and their parents lined up for a post-little league po boy. We ordered po boys, potato salad, “wop salad”, and macaroni and cheese (dairy!). The dishes were massive. Delicious in an anthrosclerosic way. Leftovers for daaaays!
